Trombonist Filippo Vignato (1987) made his debut as a leader only four years ago, with the album Plastic Breath, in a trio that he will present in Belgrade. In 2016, the poll of critics of the magazine Musica Jazz, immediately recognized him as the most outstanding talent, and next year the trio won the European Young Artists Jazz Award at the festival in Burghausen (Germany). In full creative momentum, Vignato released an album in a quartet with Giovanni Guidi (Harvesting Minds), then in a quintet (Pipe Dream), and a new release of his trio Heidelberg – Live at Enjoy Jazz. He also worked as a sideman (Giovanni Guidi’s Rebel Band) and showed interest in applied music (ballet).
Frenchman Yannick Lestra (Fender Rhodes, synthesizers) and Hungarian Attila Gyárfás (drums, electronics), both of them the same age as Filippo, complete the trio. The artists keep pushing themselves towards the unexpected and unpredictable, creating a fluent dialogue between space ballads, hypnotic grooves and radical improvisation. Their inspirations redefine the musical narrative in real time, balancing between steady rhythm segments and free individual jam. Thomas Conrad, a critic of the Stereophile magazine and a longtime BJF reporter, already calls them “the bright stars of European jazz.”
